Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledges the pivotal role of workers in the country’s economic development in his Labour Day message.

In a press release issued by the media wing of the PM Office, the premier states that Labour Day symbolizes the sanctity and dignity of labor, while also recognizing the significant contribution of workers and laborers to the nation’s economic growth.

Labour Day, also known as May Day, is observed globally on May 1st each year to show solidarity and honor the rights of the labor class. The day celebrates the hard work and achievements of laborers worldwide and promotes measures to safeguard their employment rights against exploitation.

PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterates the government’s commitment to enhance the working and living conditions of workers in his Labour Day message. He emphasizes the provision of better housing, educational opportunities, and healthcare coverage for workers and their families to ensure their welfare.

The current government is dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of economic progress translate into prosperity for all sections of society, particularly laborers and workers,” PM Shehbaz states.

PM Shehbaz further remarks that International Workers’ Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by workers who fought tirelessly for their rights and even laid down their lives.

The premier quotes the teachings of Islam, highlighting the principles of social justice, equity, and respect for people’s rights. He emphasizes fulfilling the rights of workers as a fundamental duty based on the orders of Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

Drawing inspiration from the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), PM Shehbaz finds numerous examples showcasing the dignity of laborers and respect for the rights of the working class.

In light of rising inflation and other economic challenges, PM Shehbaz mentions that the government has increased the minimum wages of workers from Rs17,500 to Rs25,000 per month.

“The premier also emphasizes the government’s aim to develop automated, integrated systems for workers’ welfare institutions, ensuring transparency and minimizing delays in providing relief to laborers and workers.”
