Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a vote of confidence from the National Assembly on Thursday, receiving 180 votes.

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf announced the results, saying that 180 members of the parliament had “complete” confidence in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari proposed the resolution, which declared, “The National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan places its full trust in the leadership of Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, as Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”

After winning the confidence vote, the prime minister thanked the parliamentarians who supported him. He also went up to the seat of the PTI’s Opposition Leader Raja Riaz to greet him.

In his address to the National Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the 2018 elections “fraud elections” and claimed that they were rigged. “When we challenged the election results, former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar ordered a halt to the recounting of votes,” he stated.

He went on to allege that the then-CJP did no inquiry into the rigging charges. The prime minister also stated that the current government is buying inexpensive Russian oil, which will come into the country soon.

“If the coalition government had been formed as the result of a foreign-backed conspiracy, it would not have imported oil from Russia.”

Criticizing the opposition PTI, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that two assemblies were dissolved at Imran Khan’s request in order to cause issues for the present government.

In response to the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Punjab elections, Shehbaz Sharif stated, “We do not accept the decision of a three-member bench.” We accept the decision of a four-judge majority.”
