Important Points

  • Polyculture Forest would be absorbing 300-350 tons of CO2 per year.
  • A Micro-sprinkler irrigation system will be installed in the project
  • The 15000 saplings will be planted with the Miyawaki method, which results in 30 times denser forests than the usual plantation method.
  • An urban forest on 5000 square meters of land is envisioned.

Dr. Raza Baqir the governor of State Bank inaugurated a polyculture forest project, marking it as the first-ever in Pakistan. An urban forest on 5000 square meters of land is envisioned. The forest will be on the premises of Pakistan Security Printing Corporation, Karachi.

45 species of plants will be used in the forest, the modern methodology of planting taken from a Japanese Botanist Akira Miyawaki will be used to give these 15000 saplings result in a dense forest. The plants grown by the Miyawaki method are 30 times denser than usual plantation methods and 10 times faster as well.

To mark a change in the current climatic conditions, this idea was presented to encourage people and other organizations to play their impactful part in the safety of our climate by active plantation. The forest will house a mini-lake in itself to give adequate support to marine life and complete the eco-system of the forest.

A Micro-sprinkler irrigation system will be installed in the project to supply the optimum amount of water directly to the roots of the trees. When fully mature, PSPC Polyculture Forest would be absorbing 300-350 tons of CO2 per year.
