The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is currently holding a meeting in Peshawar to sight the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan, and the decision will be announced shortly.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad is chairing the meeting at the Auqaf Hall, while the zonal moon-sighting committee is also convening at the same location.
The Ruet-e-Hilal will base their final decision on eyewitness accounts. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the sighting duration for the Ramadan moon in Karachi is until 7:28 pm, and until 7:15 pm in Quetta.
To achieve consensus on the crescent’s sighting on the same day across Pakistan, the committee will invite statements from private Ruet committees and cross-question witnesses. It is noteworthy that India and Bangladesh also did not sight the Ramadan moon. The PMD previously announced that the likelihood of sighting the moon in Peshawar was low due to the city’s cloudy weather.
Saudi Arabia and most Gulf states will begin the fasting month of Ramadan on March 23, Thursday.
