To discuss the state of law and order in the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called a meeting of the National Apex Committee on Thursday in Islamabad. The meeting will start in the Prime Minister’s Mansion at 3 pm, according to a reliable source.

The top committee will examine and develop a plan to address the wave of terrorism that is sweeping the nation.

The service chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, the Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, the Director of Intelligence Bureau, and the heads of other intelligence agencies, will attend the huddle, which will be presided over by PM Shehbaz.

Rana Sanaullah, Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister of Finance and Revenue, and Minister of Defense Khawaja Muhammad Asif will all be present at the meeting. The discussion had obvious relevance in light of the recent trips to Kabul by the defense minister and the DG ISI, the sources added.

After a long gap, Islamabad made a high-level visit. It is understood that throughout the delegation’s time in Kabul, the TTP’s actions on Afghan soil, which are seriously threatening the peace in Pakistan, were the subject of in-depth discussions.

The sources also stated that shortly after gaining control of the Afghan capital, the Taliban administration gave Pakistan their word that they would not permit any terror group to use Afghan soil against Pakistan.

The Pakistani team informed their Afghan colleagues of the TTP’s hideouts in Afghanistan.

The sources further stated that the military minister would present a report on his trip to Kabul and update the huddle on the events that took place during talks with the Afghan interim government.

According to the sources, the meeting would also cover the state of domestic law and order. It is important to note that following the attack on the Peshawar Police Lines Mosque earlier this month, the government decided to call an all-parties conference (APC).

Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticized the notion of convening an APC in response and declined a request to participate in the key discussion.

The APC was postponed and couldn’t be rescheduled. The sources indicated that Imran did not want to be seen siding with any action that could curb the activities of the TTP and for that reason, he opted to stay away from the idea of the APC.
