Minister promises to get TEVTA's employees their salaries

Adnan Jalil, the acting minister for revenue, industries, commerce, and technical education in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), expressed his regret on Sunday for the prolonged suspension of the money and paychecks for TEVTA’s employees.

He assured me that he would make sincere efforts for the earliest release of funds and staff salaries.

He underlined, however, that TEVTA must develop into a profitable and self-sustaining business, dependent on the labor of its own personnel, rather than becoming a burden on the public exchequer. He was speaking at a Civil Secretariat Peshawar briefing on TEVTA performance.

The gathering was informed by Prof. Abdul Ghaffar, managing director of TEVTA, that 106 technical education and vocational training centers operated by TEVTA are located throughout the province and provide technical education and training to thousands of male and female students each year.

The caretaker minister expressed appreciation for TEVTA’s overall performance and contribution and stated that placing a strong emphasis on technical education has helped several counties attain wealth and progress.

He added that groups like TEVTA could only succeed when their results and advantages offset the expenses they face.

He regretted that, as in many other areas, the wheel of development was turning backward in this one as well. He expressed regret that TEVTA was expected to provide employment for its young graduates in accordance with market demand, but he said that the situation would be very different if it started keeping watch of the job statistics of its students in pertinent disciplines. Many young people and their parents are facing the consequences of unemployment, which highlights the need for this data collection and analysis.

Adnan Jalil said that an institution could only move forward whose teaching and administrative staff prove cost-effective.
