The federal cabinet on Tuesday decided to donate one-month salary to earthquake victims of the “brotherly country” Turkiye.

According to details, the decision was made at a federal cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also prayed Fateha for the souls of the hundreds who died as a result of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also launched a relief fund to aid Turkiye’s earthquake victims. He urged Pakistanis, especially businesspeople and charitable individuals, to contribute generously to the fund.

The federal cabinet also stated that it will contribute one month’s worth of salary to the relief fund. Additionally, it was decided that all federal employees in grades 18 to 22 will donate one day’s pay to help the suffering Turkish people.

The prime minister informed the cabinet members that Turkiye had taken the lead in aiding Pakistan’s citizens after the nation was struck by severe floods in 2022.

“The Pakistani nation would not leave their Turkish brethren alone in this hour of the ordeal. I am also leaving for Turkiye by tomorrow to visit the quake-ravaged areas of Turkiye,” he remarked.

He informed the cabinet members that in addition to the materials for the rescue operation, rescue teams had also been sent right away to Turkiye.

He promised that Pakistan will provide the Syrian and Turkish people with all the assistance it could because the entire Pakistani nation was standing by the suffering people. The cabinet meeting offered Fateha for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and for the injured to heal quickly.

The prime minister spoke in his Monday telephone conversation with Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, in which he offered his sympathies and pledged his full assistance.

He informed the group that rescue teams, and medical professionals, including doctors and paramedics, had been sent to Turkiye along with the PIA and PAF flights. Additionally, he added, the flow of aid items will continue.

The federal cabinet gave the go-ahead to restart the selection process for the president of the National Bank of Pakistan and instructed that it be finished right away.

In order to review the draught of the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill 2023 and report back at the ensuing cabinet meeting, the federal cabinet established a cabinet committee.
