Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan wants to establish rail and road connectivity with energy-rich Central Asian Republics for the development and prosperity of the entire region.

During a joint press conference in Islamabad with the president of Tajikistan, Emamoli Rahmon, the prime minister stated that Pakistan needs the Central Asia-South Asia (CASA-1000) power project to be finished as soon as possible so that it can meet its energy needs.

He said that Pakistan intended to further develop its cooperation in all areas, including trade, agriculture, and food, as well as energy.

He expressed the hope that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Pakistan ‘would usher in a new era of cooperation and development between the two countries.

President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan stated that both nations had been working together to further develop their friendly relations and expressed hope that the MoUs of the Agreement they signed would revive their relations.

He said that they had discussed stability, the state of the economy, the fall of the global economy, energy and connectivity initiatives, and the connection of the Gwadar port during their discussions at the delegation level.

Earlier, the Tajik President and the Prime Minister witnessed the signing of a number of MoUs and agreements to boost bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.

These MoUs and agreements included MoU for the establishment of Sister Cities Relations between Dushanbe and Islamabad, an Agreement over cooperation in industries and technology, an Agreement over Transit Trade, an Agreement between Tajik Drug Control Agency and Anti-Narcotics Force Pakistan to control the illicit trade of narcotics drugs, and psychotropic material.
