The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to fix a maximum limit of $5,000 (per visit) and $30,000 (annually) for outgoing international passengers (18 years and above) aboard.

Starting in 2023, there will be a new yearly maximum limit for visitors withdrawing foreign cash.

Wednesday, the FBR issued SRO2043(I)/2022 here by way of proposed amendments to the 2006 Baggage Rules.

According to the updated luggage regulations, anyone traveling overseas (apart from Afghanistan) is permitted to bring out of Pakistan US dollars or the equivalent in other foreign currencies, subject to the restrictions listed in Table ‘A’ of the regulations.

For visitors who are 18 years of age or older, the maximum allowance per person, per visit, is $5,000 USD (or equivalent in other foreign currencies) (adults). The idea has been to establish the annual ceiling at US$30000 (or the equivalent in other foreign currencies).

Additionally, the FBR has set cash foreign currency limits for visitors to Afghanistan. The dollar limit per visit has been set at $1000. (or similar in other currencies). There is a US$6,000 per person annual cap (or its equivalent in other foreign currencies).

The annual luggage allowances for departing passenger from the relevant countries will be as listed in Tables “A” and “B” for the calendar year commencing in 2023. However, the present annual restrictions in place prior to the issuance of this notification shall continue to be in force through December 31, 2022, for the calendar year 2022.
