On Wednesday, the nation will celebrate with national fervor the 145th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the country’s national poet.
The day began with special prayers said at mosques for Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, also referred to as the Poet of the East, was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. His early education was in the conventional maktab, and he later attended Sialkot Mission School, where he earned his matriculation.
In 1897, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Government College in Lahore, and two years later, he earned his Master’s. He was hired to teach history, philosophy, and English at the Oriental College in Lahore.
Through his universal poetry and political acumen, he awoke the Muslims of the Subcontinent by proposing the notion of the foundation of Pakistan in his momentous lecture at Allahabad in 1930.
The speech of Allama Iqbal provided Muslims in the Sub-Continent with a distinct identity and a clear course for achieving Pakistan.
