General Asim Saleem Bajwa – Serving the Nation

Lieutenant General (Retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa was commissioned in the 34th Punjab Regiment in 1984 after passing out from the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul. Having done his Bachelors from Command and Staff College in Quetta, Retired Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa holds a Masters’s degree in War Studies from National Defense University (NDU) in Islamabad. This was followed by another degree in Defense Studies from Staff College Camberly and King’s College London.

Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa – Military Career

During his time in the military, Retired Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa has held a range of commands and posts, having served on various Command-level and instructional posts. He played a key role in the stabilization of peace in various operations, also having led an Anti-Tank Battalion, the 111th Infantry Brigade, and an infantry division in the Tribal areas.

He also served as Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps alongside acting as a Brigade major of an infantry brigade. In December 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Major General and on June 4th, 2012, as the Director-General of ISPR where he remained up to 2016 being followed by Major General Asif Ghafoor. On 22nd September 2015, Asim Saleem Bajwa was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

On 11 December 2016, Asim Saleem Bajwa was appointed Inspector General Arms at GHQ where he served till his next appointment on 28 September 2017. He was appointed Commander Southern Command of the Pakistan Army from 2017 to 2019. He is deemed as the pushing force for the development initiatives in Balochistan.

He lectured courses at PMA Kakul as well as at the Command and Staff College Quetta. He provided assistance to General Pervez Musharraf in compiling his book ‘In the Line of Fire.’ Also to mention, he served as the Deputy Military Secretary to the President of Pakistan.

Post-Retirement Civil Career

After having retired from the Army, he was appointed as Chairman China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority on November 26th, 2019. He was notified by the Establishment Division to maintain the post for a time span of 4 years. On 28th April 2020, he was appointed as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, in replacement of Firdaus Ashiq Awan.

The retired three-star Pakistani General is a role model for the whole nation, be it Civilians or serving Military Personnel. Having served to his utmost and then spending his retired life again working for the Nation, is a spirit very less hold and indeed is what places Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa apart from the rest!
