Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday summoned a meeting of the National Security Committee amid echoes of audio leaks.

According to sources, the prime minister will convene the meeting on Wednesday. The NSC session will be held at 3:00 pm. The meeting will be attended by the leadership of all three armed forces, federal ministers and committee members.

The NSC huddle would be briefed regarding the Prime Minister Office (PMO) audio leaks that surfaced on social media a day earlier.

Sources further said that the authorities will be briefed on security issues including the audio leaks of the Prime Minister s House in the meeting.

Earlier, a number of leaked audio recordings purportedly of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif s discussions with his aides and other officials about different government and party matters had been leaked. The incident has raised questions about the security of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). However, the government has not yet commented on the matter.

Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), suggested on Monday that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja quit from his position following the discovery of audio leaks allegedly documenting discussions between important members of the coalition government.

The recent tape leak reinforced Imran Khan’s claims that the ruling coalition is thoroughly corrupt and only cares about its own interests. They claim that they simply came to power for their own personal benefit and have no interest in helping the general people, who is suffering from hyperinflation.

He opined that Maryam Nawaz’s use of influence to secure good deals for her son-in-law proved that the “PML-N vice president is a doctorate in the art of lying”.

“Now after this audio leak, if Shehbaz Sharif has any shame left, he should resign,” said the PTI chief.
