ISLAMABAD – Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar landed in Pakistan on Wednesday, according to local media, and is expected to visit Azad Kashmir.
When she was sworn in as one of the first two Muslim-American women elected to Congress in January 2019, Omar made history.
She has often spoken out against Indian oppression in the area of Kashmir controlled by New Delhi.
Pakistan Television tweeted, “Pakistan heartily welcomes Congresswoman Ilhan Abdullahi Omar to Pakistan.”
Omar is well-known for speaking up in support of equality and human rights.
She was born in Somalia but was forced to leave as the country’s civil war broke out. She spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before moving to the United States in the 1990s.
