Four new parks opened in Karachi

The city’s government is trying to open and renovate more parks as the hot and dry weather continues in Karachi – the mercury hit a sizzling 41.2 Celsius (106F) two days ago – and another heatwave is expected in mid-April, according to the meteorological department.

Hasan Musana Aliv Park in North Karachi, Umme-Kulsoom Park in Buffer Zone, Parda Park in North Karachi, and Khawaja Gharib Nawaz Park in Liaquatabad were all opened on Friday by city administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab in Karachi’s central district. The parks were renovated as part of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s 100-park initiative, which is a public-private collaboration.

Inaugurated 4 parks after rehabilitation in District Central to take the total tally to 25 parks in Central District. Insha’Allah with the support of people will achieve the target of 100 parks in District Central this year #KarachiWorks pic.twitter.com/ziuqcBs4He

In September of last year, the Bagh-e-Rustom park in Clifton, Karachi, was opened to the public.

According to the administrator, 25 of the 100 parks have been accessible to the public thus far. He wrote on Twitter that he thinks the entire aim would be met this year with the “people’s support.”

He further said that the parks had been closed for many years and had been “turned into a dump,” but that KMC had “restored” them so that people could “enjoy the serene surroundings.”

Karachi residents who are tired of the heat may at least seek relief and cool down in the evenings.
