Under the supervision of the Rawalpindi Development Authority, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has begun work on the Ring Road Rawalpindi project.

Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, the coordinator of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), cut the ribbon for the project execution at Thallian to mark the start of construction work. The Director-General of the RDA, Tahir Zafar Abbasi, the Chief Engineer of the RDA, Dr. Habibul Haq Randhawa, and the head of the FWO team, Col. Muhammad Irfan, were also present.

Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza stated that the Rawalpindi Ring Road project’s 38.3 km long main road from Baanth (N-5) to Thallian (M-2) will be finished in two years.

He claimed that the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) had given the FWO an Rs. 22.8 billion contracts for a massive Rawalpindi Ring Road project. He urged that the FWO accelerate the project’s completion.

According to him, the project’s main goal was to relieve congestion in the twin cities’ urban transportation system. To give economic advantage to the local communities, a fast and efficient route for trade-related traffic and their connection to other large cities is needed.

Chief Engineer RDA Dr. Habibul Haq Randhawa presented a thorough presentation on the Ring Road Rawalpindi project at this event. He stated that the project will be 8992 Kanals long (38.3 km). Punjab’s government allocated a budget of Rs. 33694.43 million for the project. He stated that the project will cost Rs 6724.73 million for land acquisition and Rs 26969.70 million for development.

According to the Chief Engineer, the design speed will be 120 kph, six lines of the carriageway will be divided into three-lane either way, and five interchanges will be constructed beginning at the national highway (N-5) at Baanth and continuing through Chakbeli Road, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and ending at the motorway (M-2) at Thalian Interchange.

He claimed that the Ring Road Rawalpindi will relieve traffic issues by offering an alternate route linking N-5 and M-2.
