The artwork of Late Pakistani artist Ismail Gulgee was displayed at the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo on Friday. The representatives of the Japanese media and members of the entertainment industry attended the art show in the Pakistan Embassy of Tokyo.

Speaking at the occasion Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Imtiaz Ahmad, said:

“The Late Pakistani artist Gulgee was best known for his abstract work, which was inspired by Islamic calligraphy and also influenced by the “action painting” movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Action painting departed from the conventional style of carefully applying paint on the canvas. Rather, this dynamic art form was all about spilling, splashing, and dripping paint onto the canvas which brought spontaneity and freedom to the process.”

The Late Pakistani artist Ismail Gulgee received the Japan Foundation Award when he visited Japan in 1989. In the same year 1989, Ismail Gulgee made this art for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in the city of Japan, Tokyo.

The Late Pakistani Artist Ismail Gulgee received the Pride of Performance Award in 1970 by the President of Pakistan and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) Award in 1982.

This art show was a part of a large number of events planned to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of independence and the completion of 70 years of the Pakistan-Japan diplomatic relationship.
