Pakistan’s weekly inflation climbed for the second consecutive week, rising by 0.17% to reach 4.34% year-on-year, as 21 essential commodities became more expensive. Official data revealed notable increases in the prices of chicken, wheat flour, onions, eggs, jaggery, and ghee, further straining household budgets.

The average price of a 20-kg bag of wheat flour rose by Rs117 to Rs2,150, while live chicken surged to Rs350 per kg on average, with prices in some markets reaching Rs410. Egg prices increased by Rs7 per dozen to Rs321. Sugar also inched up to Rs184.37 per kg, nearing record levels.

However, some relief was observed as six essential commodities — including tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, and LPG cylinders — recorded price declines. Tomato prices dropped by nearly Rs30 per kg, and LPG cylinder rates eased to Rs3,045 on average. Prices of 24 other essential items remained unchanged during the week.
