Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has joined Don’t Be Late, Myra as an executive producer — a short film inspired by the bravery of a 10-year-old girl from Lahore. Directed by Afia Nathaniel, the film follows young Myra’s perilous journey home from school, capturing the challenges faced by girls in unsafe environments and their resilience in the face of fear.
Starring Nida Ahsan as Myra’s ailing mother and Sameera Sagheer as her teacher, the film also features Mushtaq Ahmed, Munir Hussain, Shahid Riaz, Rizwan Riaz, and Sohail Tariq. Don’t Be Late, Myra has already been showcased at renowned international film festivals, including Bergen, Montreal, Big Apple, UK Asian, and Woodstock.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy praised the film for its powerful message, saying it “reflects the fears every little girl faces and the strength that lies within them.” Director Afia Nathaniel, known for her acclaimed film Dukhtar, continues her legacy of portraying strong, socially relevant female-led stories on the global stage.
