For the purpose of promoting Asaan Mobile Account, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a media campaign.

According to SBP’s statement, the media campaign was started in cooperation with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the UK in order to address the problems associated with financial exclusion that the unbanked segments of society face.

According to SBP, the introduction of a massive media campaign will aid in raising public awareness of the Asaan Mobile Account, which will ultimately draw unbanked parts into the established financial system.

The statement further said that the mass media campaign will cover all major TV, radio, print and digital platforms, across the country. Besides, the campaign will also be run in Urdu as well as all the regional languages to ensure maximum outreach.

SBP stated that users can open Asaan Mobile Accounts without internet connectivity by simply dialing the USSD code *2262# from any mobile phone (smart or basic feature phone) through any mobile network. Customers can then select their favorite bank from a list of branchless banking providers to use a variety of banking services, such as balance inquiries, mobile top-ups, bill payments, cash transfers, and depositing funds.

In collaboration with PTA, SBP introduced the Asaan Mobile Account scheme in December 2021. According to SBP data, more than 3.3 million accounts have been opened since the soft launch of the program, and 6.1 million financial transactions totaling Rs. 40.5 billion have already been made.
