PESHAWAR — Heavy monsoon downpours and flash floods have claimed at least 14 lives and injured dozens across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The continuous spell of torrential rain triggered flash flooding, structural collapses, and landslides across vulnerable upper and central regions of the province.
Extent of Casualties and Damage
Fatalities & Injuries: The victims—including women and children—lost their lives in rain-related incidents such as roof and wall collapses, as well as being swept away by sudden flash floods.
Hard-Hit Districts: The PDMA confirmed major casualties and damage reported from districts including Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, Lower Chitral, Bajaur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.
Property Loss: Dozens of residential structures sustained partial or severe structural damage, leaving several families displaced. Key rural link roads were also submerged or blocked by debris, temporarily cutting off remote mountain communities.
Emergency Response and Relief Efforts
Rescue Operations: Rescue 1122 and local district administrations have been deployed to flood-affected zones to conduct search and rescue operations, provide medical aid, and distribute emergency relief supplies.
Helpline & Advisory: The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remains fully operational around the clock. The authority has urged residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel to hilly regions, stay away from low-lying flood channels, and follow real-time weather advisories.
Weather Outlook: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have issued high alerts for urban flooding, landslips, and surges in seasonal streams as heavy monsoon currents continue to interact with westerly weather systems across northern Pakistan.
