The Punjab government has announced a comprehensive fire safety audits targeting all markets, schools, and high-rise buildings throughout the province. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of public life and property under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Two-Week Deadline for Compliance
During a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister imposed a strict two-week deadline for all establishments to adhere to fire safety regulations. She also mandated province-wide fire drills to boost emergency preparedness among the public and institutions.
Implementation of Safety Measures
- Full enforcement of the Building Safety Act has been ordered.
- Special powers will be granted to the Punjab Emergency Response Agency (PERA) to ensure compliance.
- A dedicated monitoring cell will be created to oversee the enforcement of fire safety protocols.
- Buildings must maintain clear entry and exit points and display accurate, visible safety signage.
Upgrades to Firefighting Infrastructure
Rescue 1122 will identify and geo-tag critical locations across Punjab. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will be responsible for installing fire hydrants at these sites. Additionally, all major buildings must have external fire hydrants installed within the two-week timeframe.
To enhance firefighting capabilities, Rescue 1122 will be equipped with thermal drones and other advanced technological tools, aiming to modernize emergency response efforts.
