The federal government announced on Monday to reduce the ex-depot price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 30 per litre and other petroleum products by Rs 12 per litre for the next two weeks, from May 16 to May 31. The government has fixed the petroleum levy (PL) on petrol and HSD at a maximum of Rs 50 per litre; however, the PL rates on kerosene oil (SKO) and light diesel oil (LDO) have been cut to provide maximum relief to the populace. The PL on SKO has been reduced to 19 paisas from Rs 24.65, and the PL on LDO has been reduced to Rs 7.18 per litre.

In a televised remark, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team are working hard to bring maximum comfort to the people as the price of petroleum goods falls in the international market. Dar also stated that the price of petrol will be decreased by Rs 12 per litre during the next two weeks (May 16-31), to Rs 270 per litre from Rs 282. HSD has been cut by Rs 30 per litre to Rs 258 per litre, down from Rs 288 per litre.
