Pakistan’s Textile Exports Grow 3.7% in 1QFY23

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s textile group exports increased by 3.68 percent during the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23), reaching $4.583 billion as opposed to $4.420 billion during the same period last year.

When compared to $1.575 billion in August 2022, the textile group experienced a monthly-on-month (MoM) negative growth of 3.07 percent.

According to PBS data, the country’s textile group exports increased 2.68 percent year over year (YoY) in September 2022 to $1.527 billion from $1.487 billion in the corresponding month of last year.

On a YoY basis, raw cotton exports increased by 100 percent in the first quarter of FY23, while on an MoM basis, they decreased by 92.24 percent. Exports of cotton yarn decreased by 18.14 percent during the reviewed period, coming in at $236.263 million as opposed to $288.617 million during the same time the prior year. Cotton yarn exports experienced a negative YoY growth rate of 20.39 percent and a negative MoM growth rate of 14.91 percent.

Exports for the month of September 2022 totaled $ 2,446 million (provisional), down from $2.482 billion in August 2022 by 1.45% but up from $2.409 billion in September 2021 by 1.54%.

Main commodities of exports during September 2022 were Knitwear (Rs. 100,580 million), Readymade garments (Rs. 63,821 million), Bed wear (Rs. 61,630 million), Cotton Cloth (Rs. 46,819 million), Towels (Rs. 20,115 million), Rice Others (Rs. 17,527 million), Cotton Yarn (Rs.17,471 million), Madeup Articles (Excl. towels & Bedwear) (Rs.14,764 million), Rice Basmati (Rs.9,865 million) and Fish & fish preparations (Rs. 9,645 million).
