Dr. Musadik Malik, Minister of State for Petroleum, stated on Wednesday that the first ship carrying 100,000 tonnes of crude oil will arrive in Oman on May 27, when it will be transferred to Pakistan in tiny ships.
Musadik Malik, the ship’s captain, stated that Pakistani ports do not have the ability to accommodate vessels carrying more than 50,000 tonnes of cargo.
According to the minister, Pakistan has the lowest per capita energy consumption in South Asia, with a yearly fuel demand of 20 million tonnes.
The minister proposed the construction of a refinery with a capacity of 300,000 to 400,000 barrels, citing concerns that fuel demand will exceed 34.33 million tonnes in 2032.
Malik further stated that crude oil storage for the country’s energy industry is unavoidable.
On April 20, Pakistan placed its first order for discounted Russian crude oil under a new agreement reached between Islamabad and Moscow.
