Pakistan needs massive investment in human capital: WB report
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a report, the World Bank stated that Pakistan is experiencing a severe human capital crisis.

The bank issued a study on Pakistan’s human capital, advising frantic efforts and increased significant investment in human development.
“We document that, despite a massively expanding population, Pakistan has made enormous progress in poverty alleviation over the last 30 years,” the research stated.

According to a recent World Bank research, Pakistan’s Human Capital Index (HCI) of 0.41 is low in both absolute and relative terms, implying that a newborn born in Pakistan today will be only 41% as productive as they could be if they received comprehensive education and full health care.

“We establish that, despite a massively expanding population, Pakistan has made enormous progress in poverty alleviation over the last 30 years,” the research stated.

According to a recent World Bank research, Pakistan’s Human Capital Index (HCI) of 0.41 is low in both absolute and relative terms, implying that a newborn born in Pakistan today will be only 41% as productive as they could be if they received comprehensive education and full health care.

According to a World Bank report, Pakistan ranks last in terms of human capital when compared to other South Asian countries. According to the survey, Pakistan’s human capital outcomes are more equivalent to those of Sub-Saharan Africa, which has an average HCI of 0.40.

Pakistan’s human capital is similarly underutilized, owing partly to poor female labor force participation.

“20 million of the country’s children have been absent from school.” “Children in the country are also suffering from widespread malnutrition,” according to the report.

The paper emphasized the importance of long-term human capital investment. “Pakistan has repeatedly demonstrated that it can deliver effective services at scale.”

The report highlights that investing in human capital is a huge opportunity for Pakistan and that it is also a highly safe option. Starting from a low point allows Pakistan to concentrate on the fundamentals of strong health and education governance.
