Pakistan recorded $3.2 billion in overseas workers’ remittances in July 2025, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). This marks a 7.4% increase year-on-year compared to $3 billion in July 2024. However, on a month-to-month basis, inflows fell by 6% from June’s $3.4 billion.
Remittances remain a vital lifeline for Pakistan’s economy, bolstering the external account, supporting economic activity, and increasing disposable incomes for millions of households dependent on this source of income.
Country-wise breakdown for July 2025:
- Saudi Arabia remained the top source, contributing $823.7 million, up 8% from $760 million in July last year.
- United Arab Emirates (UAE) remittances rose 9% YoY to $665.2 million from $611.2 million, though showing a 7% decline from June 2025’s $717.2 million.
- United Kingdom sent $450.4 million, down 16% from June’s $537.6 million but 2% higher compared to July 2024.
- United States remittances stood at $269.6 million, showing a 4% decline from June 2025 and a 10% drop compared to last year.
Economists note that while the yearly growth is encouraging, the monthly drop signals possible seasonal effects and global economic trends impacting remittance flows.
