Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has officially announced the appointment of Mike Hesson as the new head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team. Hesson, renowned for his coaching achievements with New Zealand, will take over the role starting May 26, 2025, joining the national setup specifically for limited-overs formats, including ODIs and T20Is.
In his announcement, Naqvi expressed his excitement over the appointment, saying, “I am pleased to announce Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the Pakistan team.” This marks a significant moment for Pakistan cricket, as the team is looking to strengthen its performance in limited-overs cricket in preparation for future international competitions.
The head coach position had been vacant since the Pakistan men’s team’s tour to New Zealand in April 2025. Naqvi shared that the PCB had received numerous applications for the role, which were thoroughly evaluated before selecting Hesson. The hiring of Hesson is seen as a strategic move by the PCB to enhance the white-ball cricket team’s technical prowess and leadership, given Hesson’s proven track record.
Hesson’s previous coaching roles include head coach positions with New Zealand and Kenya, and he is currently the head coach of Islamabad United, the defending champions of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). His vast experience in international cricket and his current success with Islamabad United are expected to bring a wealth of knowledge to the Pakistan team.
In addition, Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the new Director at the High-Performance Centre, further reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to improving its cricketing structure and player development.
The PCB’s decision to bring in a coach of Hesson’s caliber highlights its ambition to continue building a competitive white-ball cricket team capable of performing at the highest levels internationally.
