Government has announced a deadline for operationalization of LPG Air Mix Plant in Gilgit Baltistan within next six months.

Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar was talking to Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed in Islamabad today (February 8th).

He also announced increased LPG supply for Gilgit Baltistan upon the request of their CM. He said:

“It will help reduce the LPG cylinder price in GB. Also, It will provide great relief to people of the area in getting fuel at controlled rates.”

After the grant of extension in construction license by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), It was expected that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will start the gas supplies from the plant within the given deadline.

Furthermore, Energy Minister expressed the resolve to invest in power sector infrastructure in Gilgit Baltistan. He said:

“It will ensure connectivity of the region with the national grid. This shall revolutionize the power supply and boost the tourism sector of GB in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.”

Further, Hammad Azhar recommended that:

“The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited and Pakistan Petroleum ltd should undertake the solarisation of impoverished households in GB under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.”

The minister said while reiterating the government’s commitment to facilitate the region:

“The Gilgit Baltistan is an integral part of Pakistan. And the ministry will ensure energy supply to the region.”

He hoped that the constant engagement with the government of Gilgit-Baltistan would bring about positive change in the energy sector of the region, besides its trickle-down effects on tourism in the area, especially during the harsh winter months.

Moreover, Speaking on the occasion, the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister said:

“We appreciate the reforms in energy sector undertaken by the federal government for the development of the region.”
