Rockstar Games has once again delayed the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 — now set for 19 November 2026. Originally expected in May 2026 and previously postponed from autumn 2025, the developer says it needs more time to deliver the “polish fans expect and deserve.”
The game follows Jason and Lucia, a criminal couple in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida and Vice City. Despite the delay, anticipation remains sky-high — GTA 5, released in 2013, is still the second best-selling game of all time and remains popular due to its online mode.
Rockstar apologized for extending the wait, saying it’s “incredibly excited” for players to experience the modern Vice City setting. The announcement sparked a flood of reactions online — from jokes by IShowSpeed and Lofi Girl to fans urging Rockstar to take its time rather than rush the game.
The news comes shortly after 31 Rockstar UK employees were reportedly fired, with the workers’ union IWGB claiming it was to prevent unionization. Protests took place outside the company’s UK offices in London and Edinburgh.
Rockstar has released two trailers so far, the latest garnering over 100 million views, showcasing new characters, crime-filled stories, and a vast map. Known for its perfectionism, Rockstar also delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 before its release.
When GTA 6 finally launches, it’s expected to be one of the most expensive and record-breaking games ever made.
