The federal government has announced another revision in fuel prices, increasing the petrol price in Pakistan by Rs2.43 per liter and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.02 per liter for the next fortnight.

According to the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the petrol price now stands at Rs265.45 per liter, up from Rs263.02, while diesel has risen to Rs278.44 per liter from Rs275.42. The government stated that the adjustment reflects movements in global oil prices and recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).

Impact on Sectors and Consumers

The increase in fuel prices in Pakistan is expected to further influence inflation, as HSD plays a crucial role in the transport and agriculture sectors. Heavy transport vehicles, tractors, tube wells, and threshers — all dependent on diesel — will face higher operational costs, likely leading to an increase in the prices of vegetables and other essential goods.

On the other hand, petrol, primarily used in private vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, will directly impact the daily expenses of middle- and lower-income households. The revision is therefore expected to add further strain to consumers’ monthly budgets.
