A Gem and Jewelry City will soon be established in Islamabad.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Precious Stones, held in Islamabad, which was chaired by Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain.
In addition to the establishment of the Gem and Jewelry City, the meeting also agreed to form a specialized authority for the efficient use of precious stones in the country.
The committee also decided to set up a Gemstone Export Processing Center and facilitate foreign investment in the gemstone sector. Furthermore, Gemstone and Jewelry Centers will be established at major international airports to enhance the sector’s global reach.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Aleem Khan, Jam Kamal Khan, key secretaries, and senior government officials.
Pakistan is home to a wealth of precious stones, many of which are used in global jewelry markets. However, the country has yet to fully capitalize on these natural resources due to a lack of infrastructure. The new initiatives aim to unlock the full potential of this valuable sector.
