FIFA has officially introduced the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World, an annual award celebrating individuals who use the power of football to promote peace and unity. The first-ever prize will be presented on December 5, 2025, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the new award represents the sport’s global mission to inspire hope and harmony. “Football stands for peace,” Infantino said, emphasizing that the prize will honor those who unite people across borders and cultures through the game.
While FIFA has not yet disclosed the first recipient, reports suggest that notable global figures may be considered for their efforts in fostering collaboration and goodwill through football. The announcement adds excitement to the upcoming World Cup draw, which will officially determine the groups for the 2026 tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The initiative reinforces FIFA’s commitment to using sport as a force for social impact, encouraging dialogue, inclusion, and global understanding through football’s universal appeal.
