Just hours ahead of the scheduled premiere of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6’s highly anticipated trailer, an account, now suspended, shared the video on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Responding swiftly to the leak, Rockstar Games preemptively released the trailer on its official YouTube channel and tweeted it, acknowledging the online leak. The trailer, as reported by The Verge, confirmed several details about GTA 6, including the Vice City setting, the introduction of the game’s first female protagonist, and a storyline inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
Addressing a long-standing rumor, the trailer also confirmed a 2025 release for GTA 6. In a subsequent press release, Rockstar specified that the game would be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in that year.
The trailer, unveiled after a decade-long development, goes beyond mere symbolism, showcasing fast cars, intense gunplay, illicit wealth, and American-flavored hedonism in the fictionalized Miami setting of Vice City.
Centered on a single protagonist named Lucia, the trailer hints at her involvement in criminal activities with her boyfriend after being released from prison, as she is seen wearing a prison jumpsuit.
Rockstar Games’ press release provides a brief description of GTA 6, stating, “Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
The reveal of GTA 6 has been surrounded by leaks, with a UK teenager responsible for a significant leak last year, sharing 90 videos from the game’s in-development process. Additionally, a TikTok video surfaced this week, claiming to be leaked footage from a Rockstar employee’s child, featuring wide shots of the game’s setting displayed on a computer monitor.
