Apple Set to Join Foldable Revolution with Game-Changing iPhone in 2026

After years of speculation and leaks, Apple appears to be getting closer to launching its first foldable iPhone, with multiple trusted industry insiders suggesting a 2026 release date. This innovation would mark a significant shift in Apple’s design strategy, aligning it with rivals like Samsung, Huawei, and Google, who have already ventured into foldable smartphone technology.

A Design That Folds Like a Book

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s foldable device will feature a book-style design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, opening horizontally into a tablet-like format rather than flipping vertically.

Leaked reports indicate that the foldable iPhone will include a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display, providing an immersive tablet experience when unfolded. The inner screen will reportedly feature minimal creasing, achieved through a new metal plate support system designed to evenly distribute pressure during folding.

Premium Build and Materials

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the device will incorporate a titanium frame combined with stainless steel hinges for maximum durability and strength. Some reports even hint at the use of liquid metal components to improve hinge flexibility and reduce visible creases — a common issue in foldable devices.

So far, Apple is said to be testing black and white colour prototypes, though more colour variants are expected upon launch.

Cameras and Features

The foldable iPhone will reportedly house four cameras — two rear cameras, one on the outer screen, and another on the inner display. Each rear camera could be 48 megapixels, similar to Apple’s recent Pro models.

Interestingly, Apple is expected to replace Face ID with Touch ID, integrated into the power button, in order to conserve internal space. The foldable iPhone will also rely on Apple’s new C2 modem chip, improving 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity while enhancing efficiency.

The device will omit the SIM card slot, continuing Apple’s eSIM-only approach, and use high-density battery cells for improved endurance.

Production and Pricing

Production will reportedly be handled by Foxconn, Apple’s longtime manufacturing partner, with mass production expected to begin in late 2026. Prototypes are already in testing stages.

As for the price, analysts estimate that the foldable iPhone could cost between $1,800 and $2,500, positioning it as one of Apple’s most premium devices ever.

Possible Launch Window

While most reports point to a second-half 2026 launch, some analysts believe that a 2027 debut remains possible if Apple needs additional time to perfect the device’s design and durability.

Whether it arrives in 2026 or later, the upcoming foldable iPhone is set to redefine Apple’s smartphone lineup — ushering the tech giant into the foldable revolution it has long observed from the sidelines.
