Pakistan and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, focusing on trade, investment, and development. This was highlighted during a meeting between Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Germany’s Ambassador Ina Lepel.

Strengthening Economic Ties

The meeting, held at the Finance Division, emphasized the importance of sustained engagement to foster a stable, transparent, and predictable business environment conducive to long-term growth. Both sides expressed a shared dedication to deepening economic relations between the two countries.

Government’s Economic Outlook and Reform Priorities

Finance Minister Aurangzeb outlined Pakistan’s broad economic outlook, underscoring priorities such as macroeconomic stability, fiscal sustainability, and growth driven by competitiveness. He detailed ongoing efforts aimed at economic recovery, enhancing export capacity, and building resilience against external shocks.

The minister also highlighted the continuation of structural reforms designed to promote inclusive and sustainable development.

Focus on Revenue and Taxation Reforms

The discussions included Pakistan’s agenda for revenue and taxation reforms, with particular attention to expanding the tax base, improving compliance, and leveraging technology and data-driven processes to increase efficiency.

Aurangzeb noted that these reforms aim to ensure fairness, reduce market distortions, and establish a level playing field for all economic participants, while encouraging investment and formal economic activities.

Shared Commitment to Collaboration

Both parties stressed the value of continuous dialogue to ensure clear understanding of policy goals and alignment in implementation, supporting economic growth and investor confidence.

The conversation also addressed the broader regional and global economic context, acknowledging common challenges and opportunities amid global uncertainties. Cooperation, policy consistency, and mutual understanding were identified as key to navigating these dynamics and achieving sustainable economic outcomes.

Longstanding Partnership

Finally, the meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Pakistan and Germany, with a mutual commitment to maintain close coordination and constructive engagement in support of economic reforms, investment promotion, and beneficial cooperation.
