Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the mandatory integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools throughout the province. This initiative marks a significant step in modernizing education and governance in Punjab.
AI Training for Punjab Ministers
In a first for Pakistan, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated an AI training workshop for Punjab’s cabinet ministers titled “Empowering Punjab with AI.” The workshop provided ministers with insights into the effective use of AI tools such as Gemini, policy frameworks, operational policymaking, sectoral reforms, and the application of AI in governance.
Discussions during the session also included policy summary analysis, preparation of summaries, and the utilization of Google tools to support decision-making processes.
Chief Minister’s Vision on AI and Digital Technology
Addressing the workshop, Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the transformative potential of digital technology in reshaping thinking and working methods. She highlighted that responsible use of AI is essential for driving reforms and enhancing policymaking, aiming to bring positive change across sectors.
Educational Initiatives and Collaborations
Experts from Google for Education briefed the Chief Minister on several ongoing initiatives, including:
- Master training for 3,000 teachers in Punjab
- Issuance of identification cards to over 300,000 students within the School Education Department
- Training programs for 200,000 students and 2,000 teachers under the Punjab Education Foundation
- Provision of 1,000 scholarships across ten organizations to promote digital journalism
The Google team also commended the declaration of the current year as the “Year of Youth” and acknowledged Lahore’s rich blend of history and culture.
