Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has embarked on a short, one-day visit to Karachi shortly after returning from a weekend trip to the city.
Purpose of the Visit
During this brief trip, Afridi is scheduled to visit the home of Bilal Mehsud, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker who recently passed away in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area. The chief minister plans to offer his condolences and express sympathy to Mehsud’s family over the unfortunate incident.
Political Context
Earlier, Afridi had visited Karachi to mobilize PTI supporters ahead of the party’s nationwide street movement. The Sindh government initially approved a PTI rally at Bagh-i-Jinnah, but due to delays in receiving the permit, the venue was changed to a gate near Mazar-i-Quaid. This last-minute change led to unrest among supporters at Bagh-i-Jinnah, resulting in police action against the crowd.
During his previous visit, Afridi acknowledged the warm reception from the people of Sindh but criticized the provincial government for allegedly obstructing his convoy on the route from Hyderabad to Karachi.
Accompanying Officials
The chief minister was accompanied by party members, including his aide Shafiullah Jan, as he departed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Karachi.
