Big Bash League franchise Sydney Sixers have generated massive buzz by unveiling a unique and creative jersey number for their marquee overseas signing, Babar Azam, ahead of the new BBL season.
The announcement, shared across the Sixers’ social media platforms on Tuesday, showcased the Pakistani batting superstar at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground wearing his signature number 56, but with an innovative twist — Babar will sport the number 056, while Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc continues with the traditional 56.
The reveal followed shortly after Babar Azam touched down in Sydney for his much-anticipated Big Bash League campaign. The Sixers welcomed him with a short teaser video showing the star batter entering the dressing room, captioned simply: “He’s arrived.”
BBL 15 is set to run from December 14, 2025, to January 25, 2026, featuring 44 action-packed matches scheduled mostly in prime-time slots. This season is expected to attract significant global attention, especially with the strong participation of Pakistan’s biggest cricket names.
Pakistan’s lineup in BBL 15 includes:
- Babar Azam & Shaheen Shah Afridi – Sydney Sixers
- Mohammad Rizwan & Hassan Khan – Melbourne Renegades
- Haris Rauf – Melbourne Stars
- Shadab Khan – Sydney Thunder
- Hasan Ali – Adelaide Strikers
The BBL has also confirmed that the finals series will retain its traditional four-match format, with the Qualifier scheduled for January 20, culminating in the Grand Final on January 25, 2026.
Babar’s arrival and his distinctive new jersey have already amplified fan excitement, setting the stage for an electrifying Big Bash season.
