COLOMBO: Pakistan won the toss and elected to field in the second One-Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka, but the match began with notable changes to the squad.

Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was ruled out due to health concerns. According to the team management, Shaheen was feeling unwell, and resting him was necessary to ensure his recovery, especially with a long season ahead. In his absence, Salman Ali Agha was appointed as the stand-in captain for the match.

All-rounder Faheem Ashraf was also dropped from the playing XI. To reinforce the bowling lineup, Pakistan included Mohammad Wasim Jr and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed, replacing Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf.

The management said these changes were made to maintain balance in the squad while giving bowlers a chance to perform under challenging conditions.

Pakistan Team Fined After First ODI

Before the second match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) fined the Pakistan team for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first ODI played on November 11 in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan were found four overs short of their required rate, resulting in a 20% fine on players’ match fees. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi accepted the sanction without contest.

Despite the penalty, Pakistan secured a thrilling six-run victory in the first ODI, gaining a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.
