Pakistan’s boxing sensation Fatima Zahra made history by securing the country’s first medal at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old from Sargodha advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 60kg category after a commanding 5-0 victory over Algeria’s Hamda Melissa, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal.

Zahra’s performance was marked by exceptional control and precision, as she dominated her opponent with swift jabs, solid defense, and impressive ring movement. Her triumph marks Pakistan’s first confirmed podium finish at the event, underscoring her position as the country’s leading female boxer.

Having started her boxing career in 2018, Zahra has held the national title for four consecutive years and has represented Pakistan at the Asian Games and Olympic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, other Pakistani boxers, including Maria Rind and Laura Djida Akram, exited in the quarterfinals, while Qudrat Ullah is set to compete in the men’s 55kg quarterfinal on Saturday.

Pakistan’s 55-member contingent is participating in the Games, which feature events across athletics, wushu, swimming, boxing, fencing, ju-jitsu, karate, taekwondo, table tennis, and wrestling from November 7–21.
