KARACHI: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer has officially confirmed that two new franchises will join the league ahead of its 11th edition in 2026. Speaking at a press conference held at the National Bank Stadium, Naseer revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will soon initiate the auction process for the new teams, allowing interested bidders to choose from a list of available cities.
“An auction will be held for two new PSL franchises,” Naseer announced, adding that the expansion aims to further boost the league’s popularity and bring more regional representation to Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament.
He noted that all sponsorship and franchise agreements from the PSL’s first cycle concluded with the completion of the 10th season, while confirming that HBL will continue as the title sponsor for Seasons 11 and 12.
Reflecting on the league’s journey, Naseer said the PSL has come a long way since its inception in 2015 when international cricket had yet to return to Pakistan. “Initially, there was limited interest and few sponsors, but once the tournament began in the UAE, it quickly gained recognition and credibility. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSL managed to continue successfully,” he said.
The CEO praised the franchises for their resilience and commitment, which he said played a major role in making the PSL one of the most recognized T20 leagues globally.
Naseer further shared that Faisalabad and Peshawar are under consideration as future PSL venues, noting that lease arrangements for Peshawar Stadium are currently being finalized. Venue allocation and match scheduling for the 2026 season will be determined once the new teams are finalized, in coordination with the PCB chairman.
Additionally, the PCB is reviewing major financial reforms for the PSL, including transitioning all transactions from US dollars to Pakistani rupees to stabilize financial operations and minimize exchange rate volatility.
The introduction of two new teams marks a historic expansion for the PSL, potentially increasing competition, fan engagement, and revenue, while strengthening Pakistan’s domestic cricket ecosystem.
