VANCOUVER: Pakistan’s rising squash star Ashab Irfan achieved a major career milestone by winning the Richardson Wealth Men’s Vancouver Open 2025, claiming his first-ever PSA World Tour title after defeating England’s Sam Todd in the final.

The 21-year-old, seeded fourth, showcased exceptional form and composure throughout the tournament. In the 43-minute final match, Ashab swept past his sixth-seeded opponent 3-0, with impressive scores of 11-9, 11-1, and 11-5, securing a memorable victory for Pakistan on the global squash stage.

The Richardson Wealth Men’s Vancouver Open 2025, a PSA World Tour Copper event, featured a total prize purse of $31,250 and attracted top international competitors.

Ashab’s victory not only highlights his growing stature in the international squash arena but also signals a promising resurgence of Pakistani talent in a sport once dominated by legends such as Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan.

Speaking after his win, Ashab expressed pride in representing Pakistan, saying that the victory was the result of “hard work, discipline, and faith.” His triumph adds to a series of encouraging performances from young Pakistani players on the international circuit.

Alongside Ashab, Noor Zaman, another emerging Pakistani talent, also competed in the 24-player draw. Zaman, seeded third, reached the quarterfinals but was defeated by Sam Todd in a closely fought 2-3 encounter.

Ashab’s Vancouver win marks an important step forward for Pakistan’s next generation of squash players, who are working to reclaim the country’s once-glorious position in world squash.
