A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck in the evening, sending tremors through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other northern regions. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake occurred at 5:15 pm and originated at a depth of 120 km.
Residents in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, and Chitral felt the tremors strongly. The PMD identified the quake’s epicenter as being in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan, although the shock was widely felt across Pakistan’s northern belt.
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a related quake of magnitude 4.7 about 30 km from the Pak-Afghan border, occurring at a shallower depth of 10 km.
