In a major shift in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, India’s rising star Shubman Gill has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the batting rankings, overtaking several top names, including Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who has slipped to fourth place — his lowest position in more than two years.

According to the latest ICC rankings update released on October 14, 2025, Gill now sits comfortably at the top with 784 points, reflecting his consistent form in international cricket. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran, who has been a revelation in recent months, climbed to second place with 764 points after strong performances against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, India’s captain Rohit Sharma continues his fine run, moving to third with 756 points.

Former top-ranked batter Babar Azam, once a dominant force at No. 1 for over two consecutive years, has dropped to fourth with 739 points. Despite the slide, Babar’s career-best rating of 898, achieved against the West Indies in 2022, remains one of the highest by any Pakistani player in ODI history. Rounding out the top five is India’s Virat Kohli, who holds steady at 736 points — maintaining his place among the game’s elite even in the twilight of his career.

The rest of the top 10 features some of the world’s most consistent ODI performers:

  • Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand) – 720
  • Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka) – 716
  • Harry Tector (Ireland) – 708
  • Shreyas Iyer (India) – 704
  • Shai Hope (West Indies) – 699

Bowling Rankings: Rashid Khan Leads the Pack

In the bowling department, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continues to reign supreme, holding the No. 1 position with 710 points. The leg-spin maestro, who achieved a career-high rating of 799 against Pakistan in 2018, remains the gold standard for ODI bowlers.

He is followed by South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj with 680 points, who has emerged as a consistent match-winner with his disciplined left-arm spin. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana sits at third (659 points) after an impressive year marked by economical spells and key breakthroughs in the middle overs.

England’s Jofra Archer, making a strong comeback to international cricket after a long injury layoff, has jumped to fourth place (654 points) — his career-best ranking. India’s Kuldeep Yadav completes the top five with 650 points, cementing his reputation as one of the premier wrist spinners in the limited-overs format.

Further down the list, Namibia’s Bernard Scholtz continues to impress as a top-performing associate nation bowler, sitting sixth. He is followed by New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner (637) and England’s Adil Rashid (628). The top 10 also includes New Zealand’s Matt Henry (622) and India’s Ravindra Jadeja (616) — both known for their consistency and versatility.

Pakistan’s Representation

For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi remains the country’s highest-ranked bowler, currently placed among the top 15 in the world. Despite facing fluctuations in form due to workload and injury management, Shaheen continues to be a vital component of Pakistan’s ODI setup.

Overview

The latest rankings highlight a significant generational shift in ODI cricket. With Gill, Zadran, and Asalanka making strong climbs, and veterans like Babar and Kohli slightly sliding, the balance of power appears to be tilting toward younger talent.

India’s dominance is particularly evident, with three batters in the top five and two bowlers in the top 10, underscoring their depth and form heading into the upcoming international season.
