The district administration of Islamabad has enforced a two-month ban on flying drones and camcopters in the federal capital under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
A notification issued on Tuesday stated that the restriction was imposed due to potential security threats posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Officials fear that drones could be misused for surveillance of sensitive installations or to carry out unlawful activities, thereby endangering public safety.
The ban, however, exempts law enforcement agencies and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration from the restriction. The District Magistrate emphasized that the move is a precautionary step to maintain law and order in the city. Any violation of the directive will be met with legal action.
The decision comes amid heightened security concerns and aims to safeguard both sensitive sites and the general public from possible threats.
