ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday extended heartfelt congratulations to former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Sana Mir on her historic induction into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame — a first for a Pakistani woman cricketer.

The premier hosted Mir at the Prime Minister’s Office, acknowledging her “outstanding contribution to Pakistan cricket” and praising her leadership that brought “prestige and pride to the nation.” PM Shehbaz remarked, “Under your captaincy, the women’s team achieved great milestones. Your induction into the ICC Hall of Fame is a proud moment for every Pakistani.”

He further expressed optimism that Sana Mir’s vast experience and global recognition would play a crucial role in nurturing young talent in Pakistan. “We are committed to ensuring equal opportunities for both men and women in sports. Meritocracy must be the foundation of our sports development programs,” the prime minister said.

During the meeting, Mir shared her vision and proposals for the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan. She urged the government to invest more in infrastructure, grassroots-level training, and mentorship programs specifically for female athletes. “There is immense untapped talent in Pakistan. With the right support, our women cricketers can excel on the global stage,” she said.

She also expressed her intent to work towards stronger representation of Pakistan in international cricketing bodies, including the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) and the ICC. “I will strive to ensure Pakistan’s voice is heard and respected globally,” Mir added.

PM Shehbaz welcomed her proposals and reaffirmed his government’s dedication to uplifting all sports in the country. “We are launching inclusive policies to create a more equitable and professional environment for athletes, regardless of gender,” he stated.
