PCB to finalize PSL match schedule as calm returns; Lahore and Rawalpindi likely to host remainder of tournament.

Lahore, May 12, 2025 – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly finalizing plans to resume the postponed matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this coming weekend, following a de-escalation in tensions between Pakistan and India, according to well-placed sources.

The high-stakes T20 tournament was halted last week due to the regional conflict, leaving four league-stage matches and four playoff fixtures pending. However, with the situation stabilizing, the PCB is looking to swiftly complete the tournament within Pakistan, most likely in Lahore and Rawalpindi, abandoning its earlier contingency plan to relocate the remainder of the league to the United Arab Emirates.

A new match schedule is expected to be revealed within the next 24 hours. Sources close to the matter suggest the PCB is aiming to conclude the PSL before the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh T20I series, which begins on May 25.

In light of the unexpected break, PSL franchises have been instructed to re-engage with foreign players regarding their availability. Should any player be unable to return, teams will be allowed to bring in suitable foreign or local replacements.

Stakeholders are said to be pushing for a swift conclusion to avoid further reputational damage to the league and to showcase Pakistan’s resilience and ability to host high-profile sporting events even in turbulent times.

Remaining PSL Matches (Regular Season):

  • Karachi Kings (2nd) vs Peshawar Zalmi (5th)
  • Karachi Kings vs Islamabad United (3rd)
  • Peshawar Zalmi vs Lahore Qalandars (4th)
  • Multan Sultans (6th) vs Quetta Gladiators (1st)

Playoff Format:

  1. Qualifier 1: 1st vs 2nd
  2. Eliminator 1: 3rd vs 4th
  3. Qualifier 2: Loser of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Eliminator 1
  4. Final: Winner of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Qualifier 2

This rapid recovery of the PSL is seen as a positive step for cricket fans and players alike, signaling a return to sporting normalcy and offering a much-needed morale boost to the nation.
