President Asif Ali Zardari is recovering steadily and is expected to be discharged from the hospital within a day or two, confirmed his physician Dr. Asim Hussain during a press briefing in Karachi on Saturday.
“The president is fine now,” Dr. Asim said, urging the public and media to avoid speculation regarding the president’s health.
President Zardari had been placed in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. He is currently under the care of infectious disease specialists at a private hospital, where, according to Dr. Asim, some specialized medications—unavailable in Pakistan—were arranged for his treatment.
He confirmed that the president was diagnosed with a nonfatal COVID-19 variant and stressed that the virus is still present in the country. “Effective antiviral medicines are now available and being used in the president’s treatment,” he added.
Dr. Asim also expressed disappointment over misinformation being spread by Indian media and certain social media outlets, condemning political opponents for twisting facts related to the president’s condition.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon also dismissed rumors about President Zardari being shifted to Dubai for further treatment, stating that his health was improving and he would make a full recovery soon.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also called President Zardari to inquire about his health and prayed for his swift recovery, saying the entire nation stands with him.
