In a significant political development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar confirmed meeting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir in Peshawar. Speaking informally to journalists at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar revealed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was also present at the meeting.

The PTI chairman shared that the party presented its concerns and demands to the COAS. He described the army chief’s response as “encouraging,” suggesting a potential positive outcome from the interaction. The meeting had earlier been mentioned by Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali Khan, who claimed Gohar appeared to be acting cooperatively during the discussion.

Details of the Meeting and Negotiations

During the meeting, Barrister Gohar addressed key issues faced by the party, including political and legal matters. ANP’s Aimal Wali also alleged that Ali Amin Gandapur briefly left the meeting in frustration but returned after a short absence, adding a dramatic turn to the discussion.

Charter of Demands Submitted by PTI

Meanwhile, PTI has formally submitted a charter of demands during the third round of negotiations with the federal government. The charter outlines critical points aimed at ensuring transparency and justice in the country’s judicial and political processes:

  1. Establishment of Two Commissions of Inquiry:
    • The first commission is tasked with investigating the events of May 9 and determining the legality of PTI Chairman’s arrest.
    • The second commission will review incidents that occurred between November 24 and November 27.
  2. Composition and Transparency of Commissions:
    • PTI has demanded that both commissions be chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
    • Each commission should include three Supreme Court judges.
    • The proceedings must be transparent and open to the public and media.
  3. Timeline for Implementation:
    • PTI has insisted that the commissions be formed within seven days through mutual consultation between PTI and the government.

Developments in the Negotiations

During the negotiations, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq offered to step down as committee chairman to facilitate the process. However, PTI’s Omar Ayub expressed confidence in his leadership, indicating a positive working relationship between the two sides.

PTI remains firm in its demand for judicial commissions as a step toward addressing political grievances and ensuring justice. The success of these negotiations could play a pivotal role in reducing political tensions and shaping the country’s future governance.

This development comes amid ongoing discussions and efforts to resolve Pakistan’s political challenges through dialogue and institutional mechanisms.
