Sindh government has undertaken major initiatives to boost local film, drama, and documentary industries while using creative narratives to tackle terrorism and extremism. To incubate a nifty creative climate, the government intends to support artists and industry professionals to churn out content that propagates democratic values and fights ideologies with negative undertones.

Discussions at the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Content and Production Oversight Board, including Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon as chair, were about reviving the industry by helping new scriptwriters, drama producers, and filmmakers.

The government is committed to nurturing talent and encouraging creativity, Memon said. He said promoting democratic and healthy societal values through films and dramas is vital and the board will also extend financial assistance to projects approved under creative works. As a catalyst for reshaping storytelling to drive social development, the board will help generate new narratives that can change the world while connecting with audiences and solving the world’s biggest problems.

Participants were briefed on the board’s objectives and policy framework, and a roadmap to collaborate with creative professionals in an effort to build stronger relations between the government and the creative professionals. This is a huge step in transforming Sindh’s creative landscape and truly putting the province on the map as a center for meaningful and important storytelling.
